OVERVIEW–HOW TO USE TWITTER EFFECTIVELY:
–Understanding Twitter–
If you think Twitter is for 13-year-olds, you are not alone. Realize that Twitter is like a telephone. If you were to call up a 13-year-old, you wouldn’t blame the phone if the conversation was not interesting. Twitter is absolutely worthy of your time if you are having the right conversations. Twitter has been around since 2006 and has over 200 million people, with almost every fortune 500 company represented. Twitter can be a very effective business tool if used properly.
–A Communication Tool–
Twitter can be used as a real time news or communications tool. For example, the first responders to the plane crashing in the Hudson river were people on Twitter. Think about Twitter as global text messaging.
–Set Up–
Create your profile. Understand that this is how you present yourself to the world. It is your first impression, so make it count. Add a smiling headshot for your personal profile (if you are creating a business profile, go ahead and brand it with your logo). Be sure to use your first and last name in your profile. This makes it easier for people to find you.  Finally, write a short and sweet bio highlighting who you are. You are limited in space, so make it count.
–Connect–
Start connecting with people and find friends. Twitter integrates with your other platforms (Gmail, Yahoo!, Linkedin, AOL…) to help you find friends that are already on Twitter. Next, browse people by your interests. This is a great way to find people who are actively discussing what you are interested in.
Type a message up to 140 max characters. Before you tweet, make sure you are ok with everyone and their brother reading it. Your tweets go directly into your followers’ news feeds. Add links to your website or blog to drive traffic. Focus on providing and sharing value content on a daily basis to grow your influence and your followers organically.
–Retweet–
When you find a post that has valuable content, click the “retweet” button to share that post with your followers.  If you are posting valuable content, others will reweet your post as well.
–Lists–
Twitter is the most transparent of social platforms. You can see who is following you and and who you are following. As you are learning about people, there are a lot of ways to use that information for finding leads or marketing your business. Place followers into segmented lists to help you cut through the Twitter clutter. Some examples of lists that you could create are: friends, co-workers, social media people, celebrities, etc. Then you can then load your “social media people” list to only see their posts in your feed.
–Search–
Use Twitter as a search tool. In this webinar, Kevin discusses an example of how he found a friend a job in just eight minutes. Searching key words on Twitter will deliver results from sources in real time.
This webinar will help lead you to a “know, like and trust” relationship with others on Twitter.
