6 Ways We “Go Green” at Shweiki Media

At Shweiki, going green is a group effort

Here at Shweiki, we respect the environment, and we place enormous importance in doing our part to take care of it. We don’t just recycle our soda cans and throw the term “green” around, either. Being environmentally responsible is one of our guiding principles, and we’ve even integrated the idea into the culture of the company as one of our core values: we are safe, we are clean, we are green.

Here are a few of the ways we’re doing our part to reduce waste, conserve energy and maintain an environmentally safe manufacturing process…

SOY-BASED INK

At Shweiki Media, we use soy-based inks, which are less harmful to the environment than their petroleum-based counterparts. Soy-based inks are widely recognized as the environmentally friendly choice. We also tightly control our inventory, ordering only the quantity of ink we need in order to prevent waste.

AIR CONTROL

Our press is equipped with Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers (RTOs) from MEGTEC, which provide environmental technologies that eliminate harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs), hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) and odors from our printing processes.

PROCESSLESS PLATES

At the plant, we use KODAK SONORA XP Process Free Plates, which deliver the print capabilities and productivity of mainstream plates, without the processing and chemistry. This process removes all chemistry, water, equipment, energy and waste related to the processing of making plates, significantly reducing the impact on the environment.

PAPER RECYCLING

When it comes to paper–which we use a lot of–we use the most innovative recycling solutions possible to collect and bale all paper waste to prepare it for recycling.

WASTE RECYCLING

At Shweiki, collection bins are located throughout the plant to collect glass, aluminum and plastic to help reduce our impact on the environment every day. (Our sister company, Study Breaks, implements this process as well, and “celebrates” recycling day every Thursday when every individual marches their personal recycle bucket to the bin on the curb.)

SFI AND FSC PAPER

The paper we use at Shweiki Media comes from trees harvested under the Sustainable Forest Initiative and Forest Stewardship Council. This paper is processed without environmentally harmful bleach and chlorine agents and comes from forests that are managed responsibly.
